Digital Future: Data

In May the Lab released a report on the first phase of the Digital Future Project. It set out a framework of 12 characteristics which are important to embed in any future (or current) system of digitally enabled reporting. For the next phase of the project, the Lab are organising a series of workshops and roundtables to identify which technologies might best meet these characteristics. If you have particular skills or experience in any of the following, we would be happy to invite you to the sessions:
  • Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality and Video for reporting
  • Blockchain and other forms of disaggregated ledgers
  • XBRL, iXBRL and tagging
  • Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing
  • Data analysis, dashboards and reporting technology.
The workshops (each of about 2 hours) will run across the summer/autumn and be in London. If you are interested in attending, please contact us at

XBRL roundtable

As part of the Lab’s Digital Future project, we will be holding a roundtable on the 19th of July looking at XBRL. We want to explore how XBRL and tagging more generally might support a future digitally enabled a system of corporate reporting using the Lab’s Digital Reporting Characteristics as a basis for discussion.
Ian Hicks from the XBRL best practice board will also explore how the XBRL community can build relationships across the reporting ecosystem. He will also engage attendees in discussions to understand which other technology-enabled initiatives need to be supported to allow XBRL to meet its full potential.
If you would like to join us for this event on the 19th of July at the FRC’s office in London (9:30-11:30), please email
