FRC appoints new Director of Accounting & Reporting

The Financial Reporting Council (FRC) has appointed Anthony Appleton as Director of Accounting and Reporting. Anthony will be responsible for the delivery of standards and related guidance in support of the FRC’s mission to promote high quality corporate reporting to foster investment.
Anthony will bring to the FRC technical knowledge and a wealth of experience in the accounting and reporting sector.
Anthony will work with Melanie McLaren, Executive Director, Codes and Standards on influencing the development of international financial reporting standards fit for UK needs and continue work on UK GAAP.
Anthony, a qualified Chartered Accountant, will join the FRC from BDO LLP where he is a Director in their Financial Reporting Advisory team. He has been a member of the FRC’s Accounting Council since May 2013 and previously held senior technical advisory positions at Group A firms. He will take up his position at the FRC in January.

Anthony brings a broad range of technical and leadership experience to develop the accounting and reporting team.”

The FRC is responsible for promoting high quality corporate governance and reporting to foster investment. We set the UK Corporate Governance and Stewardship Codes as well as UK standards for accounting, auditing and actuarial work. We represent UK interests in international standard-setting. We also monitor and take action to promote the quality of corporate reporting and auditing. We operate independent disciplinary arrangements for accountants and actuaries; and oversee the regulatory activities of the accountancy and actuarial professional bodies.
