FRC makes Advisory Panel appointments

Following the establishment of the Advisory Panel in January 2021, the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) has announced the appointment of 19 members to this Panel with effect from 1 May 2021.
The Advisory Panel is a group of appointed non-executive subject matter specialists, who are called on to provide expert advice and input across the breadth of the FRC’s activities. Panel members are engaged by the executive on a range of projects or emerging issues. The Advisory Panel is not a decision-making body within the FRC’s governance structure.
Alice Bordini Staden
Alice has 22 years’ experience in the investment management industry, initially as a Portfolio Manager and CIO, and later as a sustainable finance specialist, particularly focused on responsible investments, corporate governance, stewardship, and climate finance. She is the shareholder engagement consultant with ClientEarth working on decarbonisation on behalf of the Climate Programme. She has personal interest in biodiversity.
David Thomas
Providing 36 years of experience in regulated sectors as both an accountant and an economist, David has led regulatory engagements across the globe. He is a specialist panel member (decision maker) of the Competition and Markets Authority. He holds similar roles at FCA, Payment Systems Regulator and the Civil Aviation Authority. He has experience in running a global non-audit business within a Big 4 accountancy firm.
Deborah Gilshan
Deborah is an independent advisor on investment stewardship, sustainable finance and diversity. She has worked in finance for over 20 years and has deep expertise in global investment stewardship, shareholder engagement and the integration of environmental, social and governance factors. Deborah is a Fellow of ICSA: The Governance Institute and chairs the Ethics & Systemic Risk Committee of the International Corporate Governance Network. She is an Ambassador for the 30% Club and has been recognised for her work on gender diversity. Deborah previously worked with the FRC on the Corporate Culture project and served on the FRC's Stakeholder Advisory Panel.
Eamonn McGrath
Eamonn is a retired Chartered Accountant after a professional career at Ernst & Young as a plc audit partner for over 30 years. In his professional careers as audit partner and as UK Head of Regulatory and Public Policy, Eamonn has experience and expertise in ethical and auditing standards and practical application of accounting and reporting requirements.
Fiona Hathorn
Fiona is the CEO of Women on Boards UK, an Advisory Board Member to Spktral (a technology company that helps organisations simplify the gender pay gap reporting process), advisor to Peel Hunt (mid-cap stockbroker) and Chair of Hanx's Nominations Committee (FMCG start-up). She is an expert in the areas of Governance, Regulation and Talent Management who has sat on both marketing and audit & finance committees. Fiona is also a Patron of Fight for Sight (a medical research charity) and was formerly an investment director for Hill Samuel Asset Management. She has advised the board of the Thai Euro Fund and is a Judge for the Non-Executive Director Awards, sponsored by The Sunday Times. In 2020 Fiona joined King's College London's 'Global Institute for Women's Leadership' Advisory Board.

Fiona is a Chartered Accountant (ICAS member) and former big 4 Partner. She is a member of Ernst & Young UK & Ireland (UKI) Leadership Team as UK Manging Partner for client facing Risk Advisory Practice. She is a former People partner for UKI Consulting practice and a founder member of UKI partner Code of Conduct Committee. She has experience in the areas of audit and assurance, change management, enterprise risk management, people engagement and culture, compliance, internal control & SOX reporting and professional services leadership and conduct.
Gal Maller
Gal is currently a Board member and Group Head of Strategy, Corporate Development, Digital & IT of 2M Group Limited. He is responsible for all M&A, JVs, strategy, funding, group business development, growth initiatives and digital. corporate governance and investment management. He is a former Head of Streamlining (Advisory Contract) of Cabinet Office, Her Majesty’s Government and Director of Sales Strategy, Planning and Insights of WorldPay.
Gareth Rhys Williams
Gareth has proven PLC and PE CEO experience in running FTSE 100, mid and small cap companies with particular interest in the Industrial and Support Services sectors. His background covers a range of business situations including developing growth strategies and M&A as well as managing activist shareholders and recovery of corporate reputation and value. He is currently the Government Chief Commercial Officer of the Cabinet Office having involvement in all major commercial transactions and disputes across Government. He is also a member of Cabinet Office ExCo, Co-chair of the Risk and Performance Committee.
Mardi McBrien
Mardi is equipped with comprehensive knowledge of climate/ environmental/ ESG regulatory activity globally. She is a respected voice in the capital markets on ESG issues, well connected and networked on financial and non-financial reporting, environmental and social issues. She is currently a non-financial reporting standard setting leader and passionate about securing a sustainable future for all.
Mei Ashelford
Mei has over a decade of technical financial and corporate reporting experience. She is currently the Director of reporting intelligence at Gather, a strategic corporate communications agency. She is the subject matter expert across all governance and reporting regulation and best practice, including developments in sustainability and non-financial reporting. Prior to working with Gather, Mei spent 6 years at the Financial Reporting Council as a Project Director in the Accounting and Reporting Policy Team.
Pamela Stacey
Pamela has a broad background in governance and reporting, audit & assurance, business ethics and compliance, internal controls, risk management and culture and behavioural change. She is skilled at working with Boards and Audit Committees to develop and implement strategy, drive change programmes, and deliver business benefits, in dynamic and highly regulated environments. She is currently the Head of Programme & Corporate Assurance of High Speed Two (HS2) Ltd.
Peter Andrews
Peter is an ACA (ICAEW) and is a Master of Science in Economic Regulation & Competition. His role as the former Chief Economist of the Financial Conduct Authority and currently as Senior Adviser at Oxera Consulting LLP has helped him gain significant expertise in competition policy. He has substantial expertise in assessing business, market and economic impacts of regulatory changes. He is a guest lecturer at University College London, Cass Business School, Oxford University Regulatory Policy Institute, & European Commission.
Roger Harrington
Roger is a finance professional with extensive experience of group accounting and reporting, Tax and Treasury, including transformation activities, in a complex international business. His previous roles include Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer of BP plc and PwC Director of Audit and Assurance. He is a strong team leader with board level experience and a track record of development.
Roger Steare
Roger has almost 20 years of experience in working with some of the largest UK firms as consultant / advisor in the area of culture and ethics. Firms include Barclays, BP, Clifford Chance, EY, HSBC, Nationwide and Openreach. He has also been an advisor to the FCA in leadership, culture and ethics for the past few years. He is a member of the academic faculties of Duke Corporate Education, the FT, London Business School and others and has published books and articles.
Samantha Griffiths
Samantha specialises in Board development, governance and the narrative reporting landscape, with emphasis on integrated thinking and reporting. Her practical experience is complemented by her academic links to a variety of UK and international institutions. She is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, has an Executive MBA from Manchester Business School (Guardian Scholarship recipient) and is a member of the Institute of Directors (IOD) and contributes to the IOD’s Expert Advisory Group – Governance.

Simon is an experienced Chartered Accountant having close to 20 years’ experience as a preparer of award-winning UK listed group annual reports and sustainability reports, and 8 years in PwC’s audit practice, auditing a wide range of UK GAAP and IFRS reports in the UK, Europe and Oman. He has strong interest in practicing and developing top quality Annual Reporting, Strategic Reporting, Sustainability Reporting, Business Model, Risk Going Concern & Viability Reporting, as well as being a hands-on producer of FTSE 250 consolidated financial statements. He is currently the corporate Reporting and IFRS Technical Controller of Howden Joinery Group plc.

Tom is a highly experienced board adviser with over twenty years of experience in corporate governance. He has a track record of building and leading businesses within a professional services environment. His current roles include Executive Fellow of London Business School and Steering Committee member of The Purposeful Company. He is a former PWC Partner for 15 years. He is passionate about connecting evidence, policy, and practice.
Tracey Groves
As a former Partner in PwC Forensic Services, Tracey established and led the UK Firm’s Corporate Governance, Business Ethics and Compliance business practice for clients. She has over 25 years of audit, change consulting and corporate governance experience with PwC, with subject matter expertise in the design and delivery of programmatic culture and behavioural change, global antibribery and corruption investigations and financial crime remediation, corporate governance and stakeholder engagement. She is a qualified Chartered Accountant (ICAEW, ACA) with auditing and reporting experience, a certified Organisation Development (OD) Practitioner specialising in programmatic culture and behavioural change, and Accredited Leadership Coach.
Una Curtis
Úna is a Chartered Accountant (FCA). She is a KPMG principal in the Department of Professional Practice has over 30 years of experience in providing technical accounting advice under IFRS and Irish GAAP to a wide range of entities from multinationals to domestic Irish entities. She is a member of the KPMG Global Topic Team on Leases and has recently been appointed a member of the IASB’s SME Implementation Group. She worked closely with the Company Law Reform Group on the consolidation of Irish company law and with the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation on the transposition of the EU Accounting Directive into the Companies Act 2014. Úna is deputy chairperson of the Accounting Committee of Chartered Accountants Ireland.
